1. Who are my State and Federal Elected Officials?

Burke County is in the 12th Congressional District represented by Congressman John Barrow. Georgia has two US Senators, Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chamblis.

Burke County is Represented in the Georgia State Senate by Senator Jesse Stone. Most of Burke County is represented in the Georgia House by Representative Gloria Frazier. The Sardis precinct is represented by Representative Jon Burns and the Midville precinct is represented by Representative Mack Jackson.

2. When is a building permit required?

A building permit is required when the value of a project exceeds a $1500.00 value or when the size of structure exceeds 120 square feet.

Example A: A 10'x 20'storage building costing $1200.00 to build would require a permit because the total area of the structure exceeds 120 sqft.

Example B: An 8'x 12' deck costing $1000.00 to build would NOT require a permit because the project's value is less than 1500.00 and less than 120 sqft.

3. Where can I obtain a Business License?

Burke County does not require nor does it issue business licenses. If you need or want to obtain a business license you may contact the City of Waynesboro at 706-554-8000.
