The Burke County Commissioners and the Family Y of Greater Augusta broke ground on a new facility on Tuesday to be located at 50 Olympic Road in Waynesboro, Georgia.  The $6.3 million facility is a collaboration with the Burke County Board of Commissioners with support from several other donor organizations and is set to open Summer 2019.  Generous financial support to enable the project has also been given by the Georgia Power Company, Dalton Utilities, Oglethorpe Power and Ingevity, Inc.

The project has been six years in planning and brings the citizens of Burke County a state-of-the-art fitness facility, pool and water park, providing the only public pool available in the county.  The 20,000 square feet facility will offer:

The new Y will create approximately 40 new jobs, with seasonal jobs flexing up to just under 100.  Membership rates will be comparable to existing Y branch rates of a similar size and offerings, with scholarship programs available for those who qualify.  The Y provides $2 million annually in scholarships throughout the CSRA for all of its programs.  The policy of the Y is no one is ever turned away for their inability to pay.
