WAYNESBORO- Drivers can use old faithful State Route (SR) 56 again in Burke County, after contractors removed the detour two days ahead of schedule.

On Feb. 5 Reeves Construction Company closed a section of SR 56/Mike Padgett Highway, northeast of Waynesboro, to replace damaged drainage structures between Collins Road and River Road.

The work is part of the $4.817 million construction award for Phase I widening of SR 56 to a four-lane highway and is funded entirely by the Transportation Investment Act.
