Public Information Meeting Set for April 12 on Hwy 23 Bridge Replacement Project
Posted: Apr 02, 2018
The Georgia Department of Transportation invites citizens to view plans for the upcoming State Route 23 bridge replacements over Brier Creek and Brier Creek Overflow in Burke County. The meeting will be held on April 12th from 4:00 to 6:00 PM in Sardis at the City Annex Building located at 1209 Ellison Bridge Road.
At this time, the proposed project will rebuild these bridges north of Sardis, which requires an off-site detour during construction. The length of the work and associated roadway improvements is 1,400 feet. Construction cost for both bridges is currently estimated at $4.2 million with contract letting programmed for June 2020.
Both bridges have low sufficiency ratings and were built in 1962. The two structures are currently posted for weight restrictions.
