  • Public Hearing Concerning Closing of Portion of McMaster Road

    The Burke County Board of Commissioners will hold a Public Hearing to consider a proposal to close a portion of McMaster Road from US 25 to Rackley Road or a distance of approximately 1.56 miles. The hearing will be held at their meeting on March 13th at 6:00 PM at the Burke County Courthouse at 602 Liberty Street in Waynesboro.

  • Qualifying for Local Elections Starts on Monday

    ​Qualifying for the General Primary and Nonpartisan Election opens Monday MARCH 5, 2018 At 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day through Thursday the 8th, and closes at noon Friday the 9th. Qualifying for the Democrat, Republican and Nonpartisan offices will be held at the Burke County Courthouse in room 104 Burke County Board of Elections and Registrations office. This year there will be elections for State Court Solicitor General, Board of Education Districts 1, 2, & 5, and Board of Commissioners Districts 2 & 4.

    The Burke County Tax Commissioners Office will be closed Wednesday, March 7th for major building maintenance/upgrade. We will reopen Thursday, March 8th. Also the March Delinquent Tax Sale is scheduled for Tuesday, March 6th at 10:00 AM in the Commission Chamber at the Burke County Courthouse.

    The Georgia DOT will hold a Detour/Public Information Open House planned for GDOT bridge replacement project on SR 56 @ Mill Creek: Location: UGA Experiment Station, 9638 GA 56, Midville, GA 30441 Date: February 27, 2018 Time: 5 – 7 PM The purpose of the Open House is to provide information regarding two alternatives developed for this project and to provide attendees an opportunity to give GDOT comments on the proposed project.

  • Hwy 56 Reopens Early

    WAYNESBORO- Drivers can use old faithful State Route (SR) 56 again in Burke County, after contractors removed the detour two days ahead of schedule. On Feb. 5 Reeves Construction Company closed a section of SR 56/Mike Padgett Highway, northeast of Waynesboro, to replace damaged drainage structures between Collins Road and River Road. The work is part of the $4.817 million construction award for Phase I widening of SR 56 to a four-lane highway and is funded entirely by the Transportation Investment Act. Reeves Construction repaves the recently closed portion of State Route 56 between Collins Road and River Road.

As part of the planning process, Burke County is holding a public kick-off meeting on February 26, 2018 at 10:00 am at the Burke County Office Park, 715 West 6th Street, Waynesboro, GA 30830. Civic organizations, local businesses, and citizens of Burke County, as well as the cities of Girard, Keysville, Midville, Sardis, Vidette, and Waynesboro are encouraged to attend.
